Living out God’s Word
To me, being a Methodist is being deeply devoted to the Word of God and to the people of God, like how John Wesley and the members of the "Holy Club" gave themselves to diligently following his Word, disciplining themselves to honour God and to serve others.

Giving every child an opportunity for a future
Little Candles School (LCS) stems from a vision to bring the gospel to the Thai people in the sub-district of Phrao, Chiang Mai. When my wife, Sharon, and I arrived in Phrao as missionaries in 2008 with a heart for church planning, we quickly discovered a means of connecting with the local people through the universal desire for education. We found that many non-Christian Thais readily embraced the idea of a Christian education, even though they were hesitant to join a church.

How to gain, save and give all that I can
Being a Methodist is to love God and our neighbours in all aspects of life, including through the good stewardship of wealth. This occurred to me when I started working recently.

Missions by Media
When it comes to missions, we usually think of church volunteers going abroad on short-term mission trips and full-time missionaries living among the natives. Donald Leow, a movie-maker, however, calls himself a “media missionary”.

Our Wesleyan heritage
Being a Methodist means being inspired by a founder who believed tradition was to be respected but not slavishly followed, who embraced innovation but did not do so mindlessly, and who freely pursued Christian perfection without being burdened by any expectation of achieving perfection in this life. It means being a part of a tradition […]

No turning back!
“No turning back!” That’s exactly what I have done for the past 40 years. My journey with the Methodist Church started in 1981, when my leader in The Navigators (an international, inter-denominational Christian group) introduced me to Tamil Methodist Church, Short Street. It was a step of faith for me, being a recent convert from […]

Raising the next generation of the Church in Nepal
It is a great privilege to be a part of the ministry in Nepal during this critical phase of the development of the Methodist Church in Nepal (MCN). Moving beyond trauma
Family conflict and divorce can be damaging to children. Studies have shown that children with divorced parents are more likely to engage in risky behaviour like alcohol and drug abuse, and suffer from mental health issues, than their peers from intact families. In the case of 17-year-old Emma*, growing up in a broken home took […]

The greening of Missions
You may have read that the world is teetering on the edge of certain extinction and that we are now one minute from midnight on the Doomsday Clock. While the Covid-19 pandemic may have paused most human activity and provided a brief respite for the earth, the beauty of a world where the peak of […]

Senior volunteerism – Making the most of one’s golden years
When 67-year-old Loo Leong Imm started volunteering as a befriender with Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) in 2017, she faced rejection from one of the elderly beneficiaries. “I was paired with Mdm Tan, who has dementia and is battling depression. She speaks Hokkien, so I tried conversing with her in broken Hokkien. Initially, she refused to […]
