Every now and then, I hear the remark that a person has had “an encounter with God”. This is said to account for the noticeable change that has taken place in that person’s life. Often the conversation refers to a person who had been a nominal Christian, a sceptic, or even one who did not […]

Without doubt, these servants of the Lord are not to be merely mourned, but to be celebrated – their candles, I do think, continue to cast light through the legacy of their lives and service. O death, where is thy sting? 1 Corinthians 15:55 I am truly amazed. I recently had the privilege of stepping back […]

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 Having studied many individuals who have fallen because of particular weakness in their lives, I realise we are all human and weakness matters.   Our children and youths need to know that first and foremost, they are loved – not for what they do or don’t do, but just because they are who they are. This year has been interesting for me as my firstborn child, Matthew, began his primary school education this year. Before the start of […]

More than 400 youth and young adult leaders were urged to “look at the internal affairs of the heart and to take time for God to search hearts, invite Him to do heart transplants, godly cardiac arrests, fix holes, install pacemakers and implement spiritual cardio exercises”. The Rev Khoo Kay Huat, Chairman of this year’s […]

Imagine this scenario: you’re all set to relocate to Italy – but on arrival you hear “Welcome to Holland!” How would you react? You would have to change all your plans – learn a new language, buy new guidebooks, be prepared for experiences that you have not anticipated. Emily Perl Kingsley used the above analogy […]

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA More than 400 specially invited guests at the Methodist Mission Society’s (MMS) “My Father’s Business” Banquet on August 25 sat riveted as they watched the telling of a transformed life in the mountainous country of Nepal. Rojina was a street kid, roaming the streets of Kathmandu and moving from house to house. […]

IN JUNE, Singapore was engulfed by dense haze with the highest Pollution Standards Index (PSI) reading since 1997. This haze, according to reports, was caused by illegal burning of forests and the traditional slash-and-burn methods used by farmers in Indonesia to clear the land for cultivation. For almost everyone in Singapore, the haze was a […]
