Organising ourselves better for service and growth Looking towards our Golden Jubilee in 2026 as an autonomous Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS), we thank God for His leading all these years as well as seek His direction for what He would have us do. We are revisiting the way the MCS is organised—by language of […]

The underlying truth behind all spiritual disciplines and missionary endeavours is that God is the Divine Seeker. We seek God only because He has first sought us. At the end of the day, it is God who primarily seeks us; we are the sought. Francis Thompson’s poem expresses this profound human experience of a God […]

Commemorative plaque at Aldersgate Street in London, United Kingdom. In the spring of 1738, John Wesley had a life-transforming experience. An Anglican priest, he earnestly sought a holy life. As a missionary to Georgia in the United States, he tried to convert the Indians, but returned to England with some level of defeat and frustration. […]

Lent—or Lententide—extends over a 46-day period beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on the eve of Easter. The word Lent probably comes from the Anglo-Saxon lencten, meaning spring, and the German Lenz meaning the time when the days lengthen. The six Sundays in Lent are not actually a part of Lent, so the Lenten season […]

When we think about the head of a Christian denomination, we often imagine an aura of importance bestowed by the mantle of leadership. Bishop Dr Chong Chin Chung will have none of that; instead, he sees himself as someone who has been put into his leadership position to serve. So down to earth is he […]

Did you attend the Leader’s Track, where over 350 church leaders gathered to hear wisdom from the line-up of distinguished speakers? Or were you at the […]

The Forum on Religious Harmony, organised by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), was held on the afternoon of 3 July 2018 at Furama RiverFront Hotel. This was not long after an evangelism conference in Singapore during which an American preacher had made statements that were deemed to create a “Christian-Muslim divide in Singapore”.1 The […]

As the yearly keynote event of The Methodist Church in Singapore, Aldersgate SG regularly brings the Methodist family together to celebrate the values of compassion and discipline in our rich Wesleyan heritage, and to inspire us anew to serve God through social action, evangelism, and discipleship wherever we are. This year’s Aldersgate SG, comprising a […]

Having doubts and questions about one’s faith is not a sign that one is not a true believer. After all, even Jesus’ disciples themselves still harboured doubts even after witnessing first-hand the miracles of Christ. As believers, we owe it to ourselves to take much effort to know the truth about what we believe. That […]
